IPTV (Internet Protocol television)
IPTV (Internet Protocol television)
IPTV (Internet Protocol television) is a service that provides television programming and other video content using the TCP/IP protocol suite as opposed to traditional cable or satellite signals.
An IPTV service, typically distributed by a service provider, delivers live TV programs or on-demand video content. An IPTV system may be used to provide video content over a private network in an enterprise, although such implementations are far less common than subscriber-based models due to complexity and scaling issues.
How does IPTV work?
IPTV content is often delivered over a managed or dedicated network. Compared to the public internet, a private network gives network operators more control over the video traffic and, by extension, the ability to ensure quality of service (QoS), uptime and reliability.
In traditional television delivery, all programming is broadcast simultaneously. The available program signals flow downstream, and the viewer selects a program by changing the channel.
An IPTV service, by contrast, sends only one program at a time. Content remains on the service provider's network, and only the program the customer selects is sent to the residence. When a viewer changes the channel, a new stream is transmitted from the provider's server directly to the viewer. Like cable TV, IPTV requires a set-top box or other customer-premises device.
IPTV primarily uses IP multicasting with Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) for live television broadcasts and Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) for on-demand programs. Other common protocols include Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
IPTV system
How IPTV works
Types of IPTV
Because IPTV uses a packet-based delivery system, it can be bundled with other IP-based services, such as voice over IP (VoIP) and high-speed internet.
The use of IP also enables providers to support various other services and applications, such as video on demand, in-program messaging and timeshifting, a broad term for services that allow viewers to consume content other ways besides live broadcasts (e.g., digital recording, on-demand video and the ability to rewind or restart a live program already in progress).
IPTV competes with another delivery model known as Internet TV, which refers to television content distributed through a website.

How to Watch Super Bowl 2017 Online for Free
How to Watch Super Bowl 2017 Online for Free
The entire 2016-2017 NFL season has come down to this one game: The New England Patriots will square off against the Atlanta Falcons in Houston for Super Bowl LI on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. E.T. There are plenty of ways to live stream all the action for free online – commercials and Lady Gaga's half-time show, too! – even without cable.
If you have a TV...
It won't be difficult for cord-cutters to catch the big game if they have a digital antenna – and honestly, that's probably the best way to watch any major live event if you don't have cable. If you still don't have a digital antenna, you can snag one for a relative bargain. We recommend The Mohu Leaf, but if you want other options, check out our recommendation or Wirecutter's.
Sorry, an antenna won't help if you don't have a TV. There's some good news, though: You can stream this year's Super Bowl on FOX Sports Go from your laptop, phone, or other device. The bad news: You'll need a cable subscription.
If you're a Verizon customer, you may want to check out the NFL Mobile app. It'll let you watch the Super Bowl on your phone for free. It's a really cool perk that you could have been using all season. Verizon won't even charge you data if you're not streaming on WiFi. The app won't let you Cast or AirPlay the stream on a TV, so keep that in mind if you're watching with others.
One last option: You can watch the Super Bowl on NFL Game Pass, but you won't be able to watch live. The game will be available on the service after midnight.

Live Geo Super and TV
or some reason, accomplishing this is not quite as simple as going the other way (probably because cable companies aren't ready to let go). Nevertheless, we found a few easy ways to stream live TV to your PC.
Websites...Just Websites
Hulu Plus, Netflix, and other subscription streaming services are perhaps the easiest way to get TV on your PC--but not live TV. Such services feature only previously aired episodes of TV shows (Netflix has only already-aired, already-on-DVD episodes). Although that certainly is nice--and the lack of commercials is always welcome--some live-TV events aren't quite as attractive after the fact.
Fortunately, you can still feed live TV to your PC in a supersimple way that requires no downloads, software, or hardware-tinkering: Just try some streaming Websites. Of course, these sites can be volatile--often they're put up and taken down faster than Japanese convenience stores--and your channel selection is usually limited.
Streaming Sports
Sports are one of the biggest reasons for streaming live TV on your computer. Sporting events are really exciting only when you watch them as they happen, and Hulu and Netflix aren't inclined toward uploading every NCAA Division 3 women's golf match just to satisfy your love of the links.
Luckily, programming providers realize that day-old sporting events do not make for good Internet media, and some of them offer easy ways to stream sports to your PC.
ESPN3 streaming sports
ESPN, the old standby for sports programming, has a live streaming broadband channel called ESPN3. The channel streams live sporting events such as college football games, UEFA Champions League soccer, The Masters, and the Australian Open. Unfortunately, ESPN3 is available only to customers of select broadband Internet companies. The good news is that if you're using ESPN3 from a college campus or a military base located in the United States, access is free.
NCAA March Madness basketball
If you're a college basketball fan, listen up: Every year since 2006, CBS and the NCAA have offered March Madness On Demand, live coverage of the March Madness basketball games. The coverage doesn't start until March, of course; but when it does begin, the streams will be located on the NCAA site.
As for other large sporting events (such as the Winter Olympics and the FIFA World Cup), usually you can find live streaming from major networks, such as NBC, BBC Sport, and CBC Sports.
Other Programming
Not fond of football (American or otherwise)? Don't worry; you can find plenty of Websites for watching live non-sports TV.
For newshounds, CNN Live features round-the-clock live streaming (though in the middle of the night it's just round-the-clock live weather forecasting). Fox News has a live stream that you can view in a browser window or in the downloadable Fox News Live Desktop Player. You can also try the ABC News Now stream.
Ustream.tv
Ustream.tv is a lifecasting and live streaming Website. That means you'll get your fair share of "lifecasters" (people who enjoy having you watch them on camera 24/7) as well as a large number of live events (notable past events include the 2008 presidential election). Channels to check out include CBS Breaking News, PBS News Hour, and Oscars Live.

National Geography
Few know as well as Andrew Evans that the road is full of surprises, even when one is encountering familiar things, like a gas station bathroom outside Thunder Bay.
Evans is National Geographic’s “digital nomad,” a 35-year-old who blogs and tweets his way around the world. This week, a less sophisticated form of communication — toilet stall graffiti — got him thinking.
Not really anywhere until you’ve been nowhere, read the scrawl, which Evans captured in a picture and tweeted.
“It immediately made me think of Canada,” Evans says in a phone interview from the shores of Lake Superior. “This is going to sound wrong, but Canada is a lot of nowhere; it’s a lot of being in the middle of nowhere.
“There are people who have been to London and Paris and Hong Kong and L.A.,” he adds. “But they really haven’t travelled because cities are becoming more and more similar, especially in this global age.”
“But if you’ve been to nowhere, if you’ve landed with a seaplane in the middle of nowhere in northern Canada, there’s a sense of awe and appreciation for the Earth. That’s how I felt when I went to Antarctica. For me it was really life-changing.”
Evans lives to get off the beaten path. And for a month he’s doing so in Ontario, writing daily blogs and a stream of tweets for National Geographic’s Traveler magazine, where he’s worked on contract for the past five years.
He’s already visited Hamilton, Toronto and Ottawa, where he spent Canada Day. (So as not to spoil the “where’s Andrew?” game he regularly plays with his 7,460 followers on Twitter, the Star isn’t revealing the rest of his itinerary.)
